IETM at Culture Forum Istanbul 2006:

“Margins of Europe” (April 2006)

The five days Forum has also included conferences, working groups, seminars, artistic events and parties which hosted 600 arts and culture professionals from Turkey and Europe. The project was an international cultural cooperation project with 15 local and international partners which was supported by the European Commission.


Culture Forum Istanbul 2005:

“Turkey-Europe Cultural Relations” (May 2005)

The Forum was a three days event including conferences, panel discussions, artistic shows and receptions aiming at discussing on the importance of improving the cultural relation between EU and Turkey and how to do it as well as networking the European and Turkish  cultural operators. The first Culture Forum Istanbl hosted 350 cultural operators from Europe and Turkey. The project was an international cultural cooperation project with 15 local and international partners.


Seminars, Workshops, Conferences:

Cultural Management Programme

The programme, which began in February 2005 aims to build a platform of young cultural managers and give them the basic tools to young Turkish cultural managers in order to support the sustainable development of the cultural sector and to improve the cultural relations with Europe. Subjects such as the development and management of cultural initiatives, networking, cooperation, communication, fundraising, European Cultural policies, etc. will be highlighted by several experts from Turkey and Europe.

The project which is developed by Avrupa Kültür Derneği, British Council, General Consulate of The Netherlands, French Cultural Institute, Goethe Institute, Austrian Cultural Forum and with contributions of an Advisory Committee, professionals from the Turkish cultural sector, is being implemented in cooperation with several Turkish cultural institutions and universities. The programme is addressed to 45 young cultural managers, working in different institutions of the Turkish cultural sector or independently. It includes a series of seminars and workshops. The project will be finalized by a workshop aiming to define the needs of the Turkish cultural sector and suggest improvement methods . A report will be published on the outcomes of the discussion sessions which will be distributed to all the stakeholders of the cultural sector.


Exhibition: An Identification Experiment

An experimental exhibition of young Turkish visual artists in frame of Botanique Dance Festival. The exhibition questions “identities”.


Exhibition: Death is on the Other Shore

(Venice, 18 June- 15 July 2004)

Artist: T. Melih Görgün Curators: Beral Madra, Camilla Seibezzi and Vittorio Urbani, Performance by Ziya Azazi. The exhibition co-organized by European Cultural Association in Oratorio di San Ludovico, a historical church in Venice used as an arts gallery, has shown the perception of death by different faiths.


Internet Project: Europist-İstanbul Virtual European Cultural Center

Europist – Istanbul Virtual European Cultural Center, www.europist.net is a virtual platform for cultural interaction, communicaiton and co-operation between Turkey and Europe. It is composed of two web sites: Sanal Dergiwww.sanaldergi.europist.net is an e-zine about the culture and art agenda of Turkey. Kültür netwww.sanaldergi.europist.net is an interactive database, a meeting point of the culture and art professionals. It is a platform that aims the exchange of ideas between artists, cultural managers and intellectuals in order to strenghen the cultural cooperation and exchange between Turkey and Europe. Kültür net includes databases of activities, articles, funds, potential cooperation partners, exchange and residency programs, fellowships, etc.


Europe Day Conference: Think Dream and Live – Transformations on Micro Level in the EU Accession Process (8 May 2004)

Organizer of the Europe Day Conference in collaboration with AICA Turkey, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Siemens Turkey. With the participation of Prof. T. Melih Görgün (Mimar Sinan University), Şule Soysal (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey), Beral Madra (AICA Turkey President), Robert Peise (Researcher, European Cultural Policies), Prof. Tülin Bumin (Head of Philosophy Dept. of Galatasaray University), Hansjörg Kretschmer (Ambassador, Representation of European Commission to Ankara), Osman Kavala (Businessman, and founder member of Anadolu Kültür), Dr. Oruç Aruoba (Philosopher, Author), Aykut Köksal (Architect, MSÜ Fine Arts Faculty), Can Dündar (Journalist, Film Producer), Ömer Madra (International Human Rights Law, Açık Radyo director)  Dr. Kevser Üstündağ (MSÜ City Planning Dept.)


Symposium: Arts Critisism and Curatorial Practices at the east of EU  (18-21 September 2003)

European Cultural Association was the co-organizor of the 4 days symposium organized by AICA Turkey in collaboration with ECF, Bilgi University, Borusan Kültür Merkezi in conjunction with the 8th Istanbul Biennial of Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation.


Festival: European Bands in Istanbul (21 June 2003)

The first marching bands street festival in Istanbul with participation of 210 musicians from 8 European countries. Thousands of people enjoyed the festival.

It was a multilateral cooperation project” organized by Avrupa Kültür Derneği, French Cultural Institute, Goethe Institut, Austrian Cultural Forum, Italian Cultural Institute, British Council, Greek and Dutch general consulates, Municipalities of Istanbul and Beyoğlu, City Governor’s Offices of Istanbul and Beyoğlu, coordinated by Avrupa Kültür Derneği. The event made a great impact on the public directly and through the media.


Europe Day Conference: EU-Turkey Relations in The Process of Integration (8 May 2003)

The conference which was organized by Turkey Europe Foundation and Bahçeşehir University in cooperation with Avrupa Kültür Derneği has documented different perspectives on the recent developments of Turkey-EU relations.

Ziya MÜEZZİNOĞLU (Former Ambassador of Turkey), Prof. Dr. Halil GÜVEN (Rector of Bahçeşehir Üniversity), Ambassador Murat SUNGAR (Prime Ministry of TR, General Secretary of EU Affairs), Ambassador Hansjörg KRETSCHMER (Head of the European Commission Representation to Turkey), Prof. Dr. Vahit KİRİŞÇİ (Acting Co-President of Turkey-EU Joint Parlamientary Commission and Member of Turkish National Assembly from Adana), Rifat HİSARCIKLIOĞLU (President of TOBB Union of Chambers and Stock Exchanges in Turkey, Musa ÇAM (General Secretary of DISK (Confederation of Revolutionary Labour Unions), Prof. Dr. Faruk ŞEN (Director of Research Center on Turkey in Essen/Germany), Prof. Dr. Eser KARAKAŞ (Bahçeşehir University, Dean of Business Administration Faculty, Head of EU Department) and Yalçın Doğan (Journalist-writer) were the speakers of the conference.
