Creatisity: Social Entrepreneurship and Creativity for Sustainable Urban Development

AIM
The aim of the project “Creatisity: Social Entrepreneurship and Creativity for Sustainable Urban Development” is to create an organizational model for HAL, to make it function as a center for social entrepreneurship and creativity. This center should trigger solidarity based social entrepreneurship which commercialize cultural and local products for sustainable urban development.

ACTIONS
To achieve this aim, the following actions will be taken:

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING AND COACHING PROGRAM (18 July – 25 July) Training program aims to improve the entrepreneurial skills of 30 local social entrepreneurs to be able to
a. develop an organizational structure for the incubator itself,
b. to turn 5 social entreprise ideas into concrete projects and develop a business plan and a marketing strategy for each of them
Parallel to the training program, invited social entrepreneurs will hold public talks in which they will share their experiences and coach the training participants.

OPENING FORUM (18 July): A one day forum addressed to local small businesses and producers, entrepreneurs, artisans, designers and NGOs will be titled “Social Entrepreneurship and Development”, presenting best practices to encourage social entrepreneurship and active citizenship in Sinop and networking with European social entrepreneurs. The forum will take place during the training program, so that the social entrepreneurs can benefit from presence of experienced social entrepreneurs.

In the DESIGN WORKSHOP following the training program, the participants will work together with designers and marketing experts to develop their brands/products/services.

DESIGN WORKSHOPS-PRACTICE BASED RESEARCH (04 – 13 August) will be held with the participation of 30 designers (15 academicians and 15 graduate students from different disciplines). They will be selected by the partner art universities and ELIA. The design workshop will start with a research and field study. During the research phase, the designers and marketing experts are expected to identify the needs, understand the already existing entrepreneurship ideas so that they can develop their products accordingly.

During the forum (18 July) and excursions days (4-5 August) and the following 7 working days (6-13August), daily meetings will be held in which curators, local organizers, design academia, students, marketing and branding experts will brainstorm, share the ideas they have developed, get feedbacks from each other. The process of continuous presentations-discussions-feedbacks will be an enriching factor for the development of creative ideas.

The designers will be from diverse disciplines of design (such as graphic design, industrial design, interior design, textile and fashion design, concept design, social design, design of playing and learning, ceramic and glass design) and therefore the end products or services can be in different forms (object, website, event, shop, café, printed paper material, toy, package, etc.). The produced works should serve to the realization of existing social entrepreneurial ideas, or to new entrepreneurial ideas fulfilling the needs. Applicable, practical ideas are expected to be developed which can serve to the commercialization of existing local potentials, foster or support local production, brand and/or promote existing products and services, etc. Design should add a value to the existing resources and products for local sustainable development.

The design ideas to be produced will be chosen by the curators committee. The production will be done preferably with local producers. The production will be organized and supervised by the designers with the assistance of the volunteers of Sinop Sustainable Development Association.

4. FORUM and EXHIBITION OPENING (12 August)
A closing forum will take place at the end of the workshops in which the social entrepreneurs will present the results of their work during the project activities to the stakeholders and to discuss how to ensure the organizational and financial sutainability of the entreprises with invited experts.

The visual presentation of the results will be done with an exhibition which will open on the same day.

DOCUMENTATION
1. A KNOWLEDGE TRIANGLE TOOLKIT: The whole process will be documented in a toolkit demonstrating the “knowledge triangle” model applied to the area of social entrepreneurship and creativity. The toolkit will be prepared by compiling:

a. The motivation of the project owners, b. Interviews with local citizens, showing their needs), c. best practices of social entrepreneurship presented in the forum, d. The content of the training and coaching program, e. organizational model of Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Creativity (outcome of the training), f. Business plans of social entrepreneurship project (outcome of the training), g. The documentation of the practice based research process and interviews with the participants, h. Development of the marketing concept and strategy (strategies) of the products and services produced during the research, i. Opinions of the stakeholders on the process and result.

2. DOCUMENTARY FILM The whole process will also be documented by a film to be used as a part of the toolkit.

EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME
From this experience, a curriculum of a practice based training program will be prepared. The outcomes will be presented in the Academy of Participation Forum in Dublin (October 2016) and ELIA Biannual Conference in Florence (November 2016).
